If you've learned American English and you're traveling in Britain, or if you've learned British English and you're traveling in the US, you'll notice some differences. An obvious difference is the accent, but most travelers find that they don't have too many problems with this. There are some grammatical differences, but they shouldn't make it difficult to understand people, or to communicate. That leaves differences in vocabulary, which can cause misunderstandings. Sometimes the difference is only the spelling, for example, in American English center, color, and traveled, and in British English centre, colour, and travelled. But sometimes the word is completely different in American and British English, so it's a good idea to be prepared.

To find out when the World Wide Web began, we first need to look at the Internet. The origins of the Internet go back to the space race of the 1950s. After the Russians sent the satellite Sputnik into space, Americans wanted to develop their own technology further, so they set up ARPA - the Advanced Research Projects Agency. This agency found a way of connecting computers, which they called ARPANET. In 1974, they changed its name to the internetwork or Internet for short.

Dictionaries, decided that emojis were the most important new development in our use of language that year. In 2015, Hillary Clinton asked students to tell her how they felt about student loans in emojis. Classic literary works were translated into emojis - Moby Dick, for example, was renamed Emoji Dick!

Menna was born with less than 5% vision, but her parents didn't want her to feel different to other children. She did the same sports as her older sisters and started skiing when she was only five years old. She followed her father down the slopes. Sometimes he forgot Menna was behind him and he took her down difficult slopes and even off-piste*!
